A world's fair of appliances
- Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, CA (USA)
What's on the horizon for energy and water saving appliances To take a closer look, the author went to the Domotechnica 1990 international exposition in Cologne, West Germany, last February. The fair features home appliances, household technologies, kitchens, and kitchenware. Half of the exhibitors are components manufacturers, and the other half, appliance manufacturers, and every industrialized country in the world is represented. The author concentrated his visit on appliance listed by U.S. efficiency standards. Unfortunately, Domotechnica is concerned more with electrical appliances than gas appliances, so you'll have to look elsewhere for the latest in gas appliances. This paper summarizes his findings on the latest innovations for saving energy and water in refrigerators, freezers, clothes washers, clothes dryers, dishwashers, electric stoves, ovens, and microwave ovens.
