Standard method for measuring fast-neutron flux by radioactivation of sulfur

A method is described for measuring fast-neutron flux by activation of a sulfur threshold detector. The reaction /sup 32/S(n,p)/sup 32/P produces a ..beta.. emitter having a 14.3 day half-life limits the measurements to irradiation times no greater than about 20 days. With suitable techniques, fission-neutron flux in the approximate range from 10/sup 2/ to 10/sup 12/ neutrons/cm/sup 2/.s can be measured. (BLM)
