Standard recommended practice for calculation of absorbed dose from gamma radiation

A technique is presented for calculating the dose or energy absorbed in a material from a knowledge of the ..gamma.. radiation field and the composition of the material. The absorbed dose per unit exposure for various elements and the absorbed dose as a function of material composition and photon energy are tabulated. The procedure is also applicable to x radiation and electrons provided the effective energy of the beam is known and falls within the range from 0.10 to 3.0 MeV. From the absorbed dose in one material, the absorbed dose in any other material exposed to the same radiation may be calculated. (BLM)
