Calculation of absorbed dose from gamma radiation

Journal Article · · Annu. Book ASTM Stand.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5549845
The recommended practice presents a technique for calculating the dose of energy absorbed in a material from knowledge of the gamma radiation field and the composition of the material. The procedure is also applicable for x-radiation and electrons provided the effective energy of the beam is known and falls within the range from 0.10 to 3.0 MeV. From the absorbed dose in one material, the absorbed dose in any other material exposed to the same radiaton field may be calculated. The procedure is restricted to use with materials composed of the elements: hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, fluorine, silicon, sulfur, chlorine, and phosphorus. The practice was discontinued in 1979 and replaced by Practice E 665, Determining Absorbed Dose Versus Depth in Materials Exposed to the X-Ray Output of Flash X-Ray Machines. (JMT)
