Calculating absorbed dose from gamma or x radiation

Journal Article · · Annu. Book ASTM Stand.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5669722
The method presents a technique for calculating the absorbed dose in a material from knowledge of the radiation field, the composition of the material, and a related measurement. The procedure is applicable for x and gamma radiation provided the energy of the photons fall within the range from 0.01 to 20 MeV and the x-ray spectrum end-point energy is 0.1 MeV or greater. The practice includes a discussion of significance, calculation of absorbed dose, calculation of the absorbed dose in one material from that measured in another material, and accuracy. Appendixes cover charged particle equilibrium thickness and sample calculation of absorbed dose for broad photon energy spectra and for nearly monoenergetic photon energy spectra. (JMT)
