Recovery of the B cell compartment in lethally irradiated and reconstituted mice. [X Radiation, /sup 89/Sr]

Journal Article · · Adv. Exp. Med. Biol.; (United States)

Reappearance of immunological responsiveness after lethal irradiation and reconstitution with hemopoietic stem cells is dependent on the recovery of two types of lymphoid cells: B and T cells. The B cell compartment seems to recover faster than the T cell compartment. In the present study the contribution of spleen and bone marrow to the recovery of the B cell compartment in irradiated and reconstituted mice was investigated by means of membrane fluorescence. Furthermore the rate of recovery of the B cell and T cell compartment in the spleen was studied.
