Generation of fast electrons in shock waves propagated along a magnetic field

Journal Article · · Sov. Astron. Lett. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:7322698
Modified Buneman instability will serve to heat the plasma in a magnetohydrodynamic shock wave propagated along the magnetic field in the solar corona. Some of the heated electrons will escape along the field beyond the shock front, exciting ahead of it plasma turbulence which, upon being transformed into electromagnetic waves, may generate type II radio bursts.
