Electromagnetic radiation from a magnetohydrodynamic shock front

Journal Article · · Sov. Astron. Lett. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:5236067
Electromagnetic radiation will be generated by regular transformation of plasma waves excited ahead of a shock front irregularity. The accumulation of plasma-wave energy will enhance the efficiency of this transformation. The mechanism is applied to interpret type II solar radio emission. An explanation is suggested for the deficient polarization of type II bursts.
