New theorems on the final-state interaction in deuteron breakup

New theorems are formulated on the effects of the final-state interaction for inelastic interactions of particles with a deuteron: A) elastic rescattering in the final state changes only the shape of the spectator spectrum and does not change the integral over the spectrum; B) in the presence of charge exchange, when the neutron spectator can be converted into a proton spectator and vice versa, rescattering does not change the sum of the integrals over the proton and neutron spectator spectra. The proof of theorems A and B relies to a considerable extent on the unitarity of the two-particle amplitudes and can be given when the wavelengths of the particles undergoing rescattering or charge exchange with the nucleons of the deuteron are small in comparison with the radius of the deuteron. Theorems A and B are generalized to the case when inelastic channels are also important in the rescattering. The application of the theorems proved to the p-bard annihilation reaction at antiproton momenta of 300--600 MeV/c in the lab frame is discussed.
