Users advised: get control of your own gas reserves

Financial and petroleum consultants advised a conference of natural gas users to acquire control of their own gas in the field either by investing in capital-short gas producing and pipeline companies, taking part in gas exploration, or buying reserves in the field. The cheapest route to a long-term gas supply is a successful exploration effort, although it also involves risks and capital. A less risky purchase of reserves through bank financing is vulnerable to the effects of competition and the possibility of over-estimated reserves. Users are urged to get opinions from two consultants before investing in either option. Users also received information on financing methods, both bank and non-bank. (DCK)
