Energy investments by corporations are slowing because of tight credit and high interest rates, with users looking for new ways to finance energy projects. A survey of banks across the country shows that loans specifically for energy conservation are virtually stopped until economic conditions are more stable. Alternative financing schemes include equipment lease purchases, a marketing shift to larger companies able to finance investments with retained earnings, bond financing, and traditional bank loans. Each company must analyze its investment needs to determine which scheme is most appropriate. (DCK)
