Marathon Oil Co. has outlined plans for a secondary-recovery and pressure-maintenance operation for Yates field in West Texas. Marathon said the planned program would boost ultimate recovery to 1.95 billion bbl from 1.75 billion bbl; a 100,000-bbl/d producing rate would be used rather than the present 50,000-bbl/d MER. Additional recovery of 200 million bbl is greater than the recoverable reserves of any field discovered in Texas in the past 15 years or more. Of 199 working-interest owners, 196 have joined in the unit agreement and of the 962 royalty owners, 795 have joined. The average price of Yates crude will increase about $3/bbl, provided the 50,000-bbl/d production increase goes at upper-tier prices. Additional recovery will result from exposing more of the reservoir to more efficient gravity-segregation gas-cap drive. Yates wells and surface production facilities are capable of producing and handling in excess of 100,000 bbl/d efficiently. (MCW)
