Case for Yates unitization

Journal Article · · Drilling; (United States)

Owners of 95% of the working interest in the Yates field of W. Texas have executed agreements to unitize the field, and agreements are being circulated among remaining working interest owners and the field's numerous royalty owners for their consideration and approval. Application of a field-wide engineered program of reservoir management, it is believed, will increase the ultimate oil recovery from the field by approx. 200 million bbl. When discovered, the reservoir contained oil underlain by water, and the reservoir pressure was about 700 psi. After nearly 50 yr of production, during which more than 600 million bbl of oil have been recovered, the average reservoir pressure has declined to about 420 psi. The initial operating program is described. Graphs indicate reservoir pressure decline and the daily oil production.
