Absolute determination of the. cap alpha. widths of the 3. 42-eV resonance in the reaction /sup 147/Sm(n,. cap alpha. )/sup 144/Nd

The ..cap alpha.. width of the 3.42-eV resonance of /sup 147/Sm has been determined, in contrast to methods used previously, from the ratio of the ..cap alpha..-particle yield of the reaction /sup 147/Sm(n,..cap alpha..) to the triton yield from the reaction /sup 6/Li(n,t) at the same energy. The value obtained is GAMMA/sub b/=1.8 +- 0.2 ..mu.. eV. (AIP)
