We report a study of the reactions /sup 147/Sm(n,..cap alpha..)/sup 144/Nd and /sup 143/Nd(n,..cap alpha..)/sup 140/Ce with resonance neutrons, carried out in the linear electron accelerator installation Fakel by the time-of-flight method with a resolution of 4 nsec/m. The total ..cap alpha.. widths were measured for /sup 143/Nd and 27 for /sup 147/Sm in the neutron energy ranges 100--3000 eV and 15--700 eV, respectively. The dependence of the average ..cap alpha.. width of /sup 147/Sm on neutron energy was investigated in the range 1--3000 eV. The experiment indicates an appreciable fluctuation of the cross sections on averaging over 100-eV intervals (10--15 resonances each). Up to energy 1.8 keV we have observed at least three resonances with ..cap alpha.. widths exceeding the average ..cap alpha.. width by 4--10 times. off
