Representatives of the State Department, Office of Science and Technology at the White House, National Science Foundation, American Association for the Advancement of Science, and Allied-Signal, Inc. testified on how international science and technology activities affect US foreign policy issues. At issue at the hearing was the development of a planning and coordination mechanism involving relevant agencies and an examination of policies using bilateral and multilateral science and technology activities to further foreign policy goals, particularly those of national security and trade. Five appendices with additional letters and responses submitted for the record follow the testimony of the five witnesses.
