Pancreatic rudiments from fetal rats were frozen and held at -196/sup 0/C for approximately 9 to 13 weeks and then transplanted into allogeneic animals. In all cases the transplanted tissues became well vascularized within three to five days and showed significant increases in both area and mass within eleven days. Insulin synthesis in the cryopreserved pancreas tissues was demonstrated by ability to reverse experimental diabetes in four rats. (CH)
