Heat balance and temperature relationships of the liquid phase, Scholven III/266

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7220544
Two sketches were included in this report. One was a heat balance for a bituminous coal stall (700 atm) at Scholven III with steam production. The second sketch was a heat balance for the same stall without steam production. The amounts of heat were valid for a total of four stalls with 150 m/sup 3/ of reaction space. The amount of heat introduced into the preheater or exchanger calculated from 0/sup 0/C was 2,004,000 k cal/hr from 33.6 tons/hr of paste at 100/sup 0/C into preheater, 51,000 k cal/hr from 7,000 m/sup 3//hr of paste injection at 40/sup 0/C into the preheater, and 335,000 k cal/hr from 26,000 m/sup 3//hr of injection gas at 40/sup 0/C into the heat exchanger. This totaled 2,390,000 k cal/hr. The circulating gas was heated from 40/sup 0/C to 400/sup 0/C in the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger included about 24 tons/hr of distillate including 3.6 tons/hr of water and about 50,000 m/sup 3//hr of circulating gas. The water value was 31,000 k cal//sup 0/C. Calculations involving the heat exchanger and cooling water were discussed. The water value for the amount of heat calculated was 27,500 k cal//sup 0/C for the catch-pot feed. A waste heat boiler was recommended for use instead of an air cooler since the boiler would produce 8 to 10 tons/hr of steam and an air cooler would have had to be too large to cool the desired amount.
