Oil production by aqueous fluid drive using a non-ionic surfactant

Patent ·
OSTI ID:7215909

A nonionic polyoxyethylene ether or thioether in an aqueous solution changes the wettability of an oil reservoir from oil-wet to water-wet and recovers oil. The oil-wet part of crushed Burbank cores (Oklahoma) was packed in microcells, flooded with Burbank crude (38/sup 0/ API, 6.8 cp at 78/sup 0/F), and waterflooded with simulated Burbank produced brine. Injection of a solution containing the surfactant, Tall oil ethylene oxide produced 50 percent OIP. After 48 hours a brine flood was injected which increased the total recovery to 90 percent OIP.
