Role of V gene in ultraviolet-induced enhancement of recombination among T4 phages

The role of the T4 V gene in the uv-enhanced genetic recombination phenomenon was examined. The results do not support the direct involvement of the V gene product, an endonuclease specific for uv-irradiated DNA. However the results do suggest the importance of pyrimidine dimers in promoting recombination among post-replicated DNAs.
