Hydro legislative update

During December of 1985, the House of Representatives completed action on a series of tax reform proposals which could have a significant impact on the hydropower industry. The House bill is similar to numerous other recent tax reform proposals in reducing marginal tax rates and eliminating numerous tax preferences. However, because of the substantial reduction in depreciation allowances under the House bill, compared with current law and other tax reform proposals, the House bill can be expected to have a significant negative impact on hydropower development.
