Into rabbits bearing 15-day BCG lesions, tritiated thymidine (/sup 3/HT) of specific activity of 20 or 2 Ci/mmole was injected intravenously as a single dose of 0.5 ..mu..Ci/g of body weight. The rabbits were sacrificed 30 min later. /sup 3/HT of low specific activity contained 10 times more thymidine (''hot'' plus ''cold'') per milliliter, but the same amount of hot thymidine per milliliter as /sup 3/HT of high specific activity. The /sup 3/HT grain counts on cells in the bone marrow, in the dermal BCG lesions and in the intestinal tract were not higher in the group receiving /sup 3/HT of high specific activity. In other words, when the same dose of radioactivity was administered, the labeling effectiveness of /sup 3/HT of low specific activity was equal to the effectiveness of /sup 3/HT of high specific activity.
