Synthesis and characterization of Sr[sub 2]Ce[sub 2]Ti[sub 5]O[sub 16] in the system SrO-CeO[sub 2]-TiO[sub 2]

The ternary system SrO-CeO[sub 2]-TiO[sub 2] was investigated using X-ray diffractometry. The formation of a new compound, Sr[sub 2]Ce[sub 2]Ti[sub 5]O[sub 16], was established, and its compatibilities with SrO, SrCeO[sub 3], and SrTiO[sub 3] were studied. The results revealed the existence of a series of compounds Sr[sub 6[minus]12x]Ce[sub 6x]Ti[sub 5]O[sub 16] and solid solutions Sr[sub 2+n]Ce[sub 2]Ti[sub 5+n]O[sub 16+3n] (n [le] 6).
