Solid solutions within selected SrO-LnO{sub 1.5}-TiO{sub 2} systems

A region of selected SrO-LnO{sub 1.5}-TiO{sub 2} (Ln = La, Ce, Pr, or Nd) systems was studied experimentally using X-ray diffractometry (XRD). A series of solid solutions with composition Sr{sub 4{minus}x}Ln{sub 2x/3}Ti{sub 4}O{sub 12} having tetragonally distorted perovskite structures was found to exist along the tie line connecting SrTiO{sub 3} and Ln{sub 2}Ti{sub 3}O{sub 9}. Reactions of SrLn{sub 2}Ti{sub 4}O{sub 12}, representative compounds of the series, with SrO were also studied. Additionally, the solubility of TiO{sub 2} in Ln{sub 2}O{sub 3} {center_dot} (3TiO{sub 2{minus}m}) (Ln = La, Pr, or Nd) at 1,300 C was investigated using XRD.
