A new study evaluating the costs of various scenarios to amend the Clean Air Act says the country might pay US $54-billion per year -- or even as much as US $104-billion per year for cleaner air. Despite the near consensus as to the urgency of cleaning up the air, there are grave concerns in the business community about cost effectiveness. This issue of Energy Detente quotes some of the study findings. This issue also includes: (1) ED Refining Netback Data Series for the U.S. Gulf and West Coasts, Rotterdam, and Singapore as of January 19, 1990; and (2) ED Fuel Price/Tax Series for countries of the Eastern Hemisphere, January 1990 edition. 3 figs., 5 tabs.
