In 1988, oil-market analysts and sometime observers ogled the apparent decoupling of gasoline prices and crude oil prices in the US - while under the surface, Energy Detente maintains, the paths of the two made perfect sense. Did the year 1988 teach downstreamers what to expect in 1989. Perhaps a more pertinent question would be, what did it teach upstreamers. This issue contains the following: (1) ED refining netback data series for the US Gulf and West Coasts, Rotterdam, Singapore for Jan. 6 and Jan. 20, 1989; and (2) ED fuel price/tax series for countries of both the Western and Eastern Hemispheres, late January 1989. Also, in this issue, a new survey, Residential Heating Oil Price Survey, for 3 regions, makes its debut. 10 figures, 10 tables.
