Micellar-polymer flooding in the Bradford Field

Conference ·
OSTI ID:7159760
The most recent Pennzoil Company operated micellar-polymer project in the Bradford Fields, McKean County, Pennsylvania contains 189 wells drilled on a staggered line drive pattern. The test, referred to as Special Project No. 8, comprises 218 acres and was developed under the Department of Energy Front End Incentive Programs to evaluate the recovery efficiency of the Maraflood process on a commercial, large scale basis. The test was conducted in the oil wet, previously waterflooded Bradford Third Sand Reservoir. A crude oil sulfonate micellar slug formulation was injected into the test reservoir after a stable period of produced brine injection. The mobility buffer system utilizes a polycrylamide emulsion product injected in a graded viscosity sequence. Micellar slug injection was initiated July 1982 and was completed in March 1983 after injection of 9.5% of the total reservoir pore volume. Polymer injection immediately followed micellar slug injection and is still in progress.
