Evidence for core-coupled states in /sup 87/Y from a /sup 89/Y(p, t)/sup 87/Y and /sup 88/Sr(p, t)/sup 86/Sr comparison

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev., C; (United States)
The /sup 89/Y(p, t)/sup 87/Y and /sup 88/Sr(p, t)/sup 86/Sr reactions were studied at 42 MeV proton energy, using a quadrupole-dipole-dipole-dipole spectograph. Comparison of excitation energies, (p, t) cross section strengths and angular distribution shapes indicates that basis features of the core-coupling model apply to these nuclei. However, mixing of single particle states with the core-coupled states is evident. The (p, t) cross-section strength summed over the /sup 87/Y multiplet is found with few exceptions to be nearly a constant multiple of the (p, t) strength of the associated /sup 86/Sr state. (AIP)
