Investigation of $sup 89$Y and $sup 87$Rb by high resolution inelastic proton scattering experiments

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4332754

The choice of a magnetic spectrograph as detection apparatus for the experiments is argued, and the experimental set up and procedures are described. New data concerning the high resolution inelastic scattering of /sup 87/Rb are presented. The experiments on /sup 89/Y in the excitation energy range of 2 to 4.2 MeV and their results are discussed. For the analysis of the experimental data the distorted wave Born approximation is used. Experiments were made in order to determine the states in /sup 89/Y and /sup 87/Rb by considering them as originating from the coupling of a proton or proton-hole respectively with a /sup 88/Sr core. The results of the experiments are compared with rough predictions based on this conception. In general a qualitative agreement was found, however, it is not yet possible to relate the individual levels in /sup 89/Y and /sup 87/ Rb with their so-called parent states in /sup 88/Sr. Arguments are given for the presence of some states theoretically predicted but experimentally not yet identified in /sup 88/Sr and for the need to reinvestigate /sup 88/Sr very exactly.
