Topics discussed in this volume include model systems, interfacial reactions, joining methods, and strength and fracture. Papers are presented on the TEM studies of Pd/Al{sub 2}O{sub 3} interfaces, spinel formation in the nickel-alumina system, a crystallographic study of ceramic-metal joints, alumina-copper diffusion bonding, and the bonding and fracture of titanium-containing braze alloys to aluminum. Other papers are on brazing ceramics with alloys containing titanium, joining nitride ceramics, interfacial reactions in metal-Si{sub 3}N{sub 4} bonding, morphological development of zirconia-metal interface, and interfacial reaction between zirconia and carbon steel. Also discussed is joining between zirconias using platinum metal, silicon nitride joining with glasses in the system CaO-SiO{sub 2}, the strength of ceramics bonded with metals, the mechanical behavior of brazed silicon nitride, the mechanical behavior of ceramic-metal braze joints, and the effect of surface grinding conditions on the strength of alumina/niobium joint.
