Two methods are described for the determination of /sup 137/Cs in solutions resulting from the dissolution of irradiated nuclear fuels primarily for the determination of burnup. Prior to determination of the /sup 137/Cs, at least 130 days cooling time is allowed for decay of /sup 86/Rb and /sup 136/Cs. The /sup 137/Cs is separated from the solution by precipitation as cesium perchlorate from a solution of ethyl alcohol and perchloric acid or as cesium chloroplatinate from a hydrochloric acid--ethyl alcohol medium. In each can natural cesium is added as a carrier. The separated /sup 137/Cs is determined by gamma spectroscopy. (BLM)
