Cesium-137 in nuclear fuel solutions by radiochemical analysis

The methods cover the quantitative determination of radioactive cesium-137 in a known quantity of aqueous solution. The methods are designed for solutions that result from the dissolution of irradiated nuclear fuel primarily for determining burnup. The methods are applicable to any solution of dissolved nuclear fuel containing sufficient cesium-137 for accurate counting provided that at least 130 days cooling time is allowed for the decay of rubidium-86 and cesium-136. The method includes a discussion of apparatus, reagents and materials, reference standard, procedure, calculations, and precision. (JMT)
