Ethylene conversion on dealuminized mordenites

Journal Article · · Kinet. Catal. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)

A study was carried out on the effect of the extent of dealumination on the nature of ethylene conversion on mordenites. Ethylene undergoes aromatization on the hydrogen form, but upon sufficiently long contact, the aromatic hydrocarbons are converted to carbonization products. The concentration of active sites decreases with increasing dealumination along with a concurrent decrease in the selectivity of ethylene to 1,2-dialkylphenylene radicals and facilitation of desorption and release of the aromatic compounds to the gas phase. A possible mechanism for the conversion of ethylene on HM was discussed on the basis of a catalytic and ESR spectral study.
