Sediment load regime of rivers in southern Kazakhstan

Observations are made of the regime of sediments of mountain river southern Kazkhstan, carried out simultaneously with on-site investigations of water intake structures. Gauging sites were set up on natural stretches of rivers outside the backwater zone from the intake. The quantitative characteristics of the water and sediment discharges obtained by the author under on-site conditions while investigating intake structures are presented in a table. Observations established that the bed-load transport varies in conformity with the water runoff regime both during the season and during the day. A reliable relation is obtained for determining the specific bed-load discharge on mountain rivers based on extensive on-site data and having an accuracy acceptable for engineering and hydrological calculations.
