Deformation of river channels in the dam stretch

The construction of small reservoirs leads to a radical change in the natural hydrologic regime of a river, this being expressed mainly in the annual redistribution of the water discharge and partial or complete retention of the sediment load by the reservoir. Scour of river channels in the lower pool, observed during operation of large reservoirs, usually leads to a drop of the water level and bottom, but in certain cases a rise of the bottom and water surface is noted. This was observed in the lower pool of the Volga-Lenin hydroelectric station. The authors present here the results of an investigation of deformations in the dam stretch of small reservoirs of Belorussia, showing that an analogous phenomenon of a rise of the bottom and water surface is observed in almost all cases.
