Quadrupole moment of the first 2/sup +/ excited state in /sup 136/Ba through the reorientation effect

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. C; (United States)
Measurements of the Coulomb excitation probability of the first 2/sup +/ state of /sup 136/Ba were carried out using back-scattered ions of /sup 4/He and /sup 16/O. The static quadrupole moment Q/sub 2/+ and the reduced transition probability B(E2;0/sup +/..-->..2/sup +/) have been determined using the reorientation effect. It is found that Q/sub 2/+ = +0.01 +- 0.05 e b (+0.25 +- 0.05 e b) for the positive (negative) sign of the 2/sup +/' interference term, and B(E2;0/sup +/..-->..2/sup +/) = 0.399 +- 0.0 03 e/sup 2/b/sup 2/.
