This article examines a number of aspects of intensification of the carbonization process and related problems of personnel-schedule reorganization in the carbonization industry: (1) commercial implementation of measures to intensify coke production requires preliminary technical, organization, and social measures to improve product quality and working conditions; (2) social criteria, on which proper solution to the personnel problem depends, are of primary importance in such a program; (3) facilities for production of specializated carbonization equipment and for the manufacture of automation devices must be expanded during the current five-year plan; (4) in technical planning work, opportunities for optimization of coke-oven-battery technical parameters and operating conditions provided by intensification of the carbonization process must be investigated.
