Intensification of effort on the mechanization and automation of production processes in the coking industry

To succeed in the planned technical, economic, and social programs workers in every sector of the national economy must face the major and serious problems of bringing about full mechanization and process automation. These problems are particularly serious in the coking industry, because of the size of the processing streams, the bulk tonnage nature of the products and the risks associated with many processes because of corrosive media, dust emission, high temperatures and conditions conducive to fire and exposion. The problems of labor mechanization and plant automation in the coking industry can be overcome provided: a major integrated program of research, experimental design, development and plant adjustment work is carried out and practical plans are drawn up; clearly coordinated work plans are agreed between KBAiM Giprokoksa as the head organization and its collaborating organization; technical innovations are carefully developed under actual plant conditions; and highly qualified specialists are trained to service complex electronic systems. Automatic systems for the remote or automatic control of mechanisms, coke-oven machines and production processes are highly complicated in the technical sense and must satisfy stringent requirements as to their dependability and freedom from faults, since the basic and ancillary equipment they control is exposed to corrosive environments and high temperatures. One of the most important prerequisites to the successful installation and operation of automatic devices and systems in the coking plants is the availability of personnel qualified to service the equipment.
