Conference · · Pap., Int. Conf. Liquefied Nat. Gas; (United States)
OSTI ID:7071362
A discussion of experience gained during the initial years of the Shell Brunei/Japan LNG scheme covers the delivery of 500 cargoes by mid-1977 by seven 75,000 cu m ships; factors affecting boiloff during loading and during the loaded voyage, and the retention of some LNG for the return trip for spray cooling before reloading; inerting and aeration before dry docking or repairs and the subsequent inerting, drying, and cooldown prior to loading; use of a barge-mounted inert gas system based at the discharge terminal/repair yard to service all seven LNG carriers; modifications to the boilers to enable burning a greater amount of boiloff than originally anticipated; equipment problems; restrictions and regulations in Japanese port areas; creation of a management office in Japan to deal with customers and services and to act as liaison with the ships staff and Chinese crews; and arrangements with a major Japanese ship repair yard for all ship repairs.
