Brunei LNG plant opened with ceremonies
Startup of the $170 million LNG project at Brunei to export liquefied natural gas to Japan was marked by ceremonies in these 2 countries early last month. The Government of Brunei (10%), the Mitsubishi Corp. of Japan (45%), and Shell Petroleum NV (45%) were the international founders of Brunei LNG Ltd., the company founded to build and operate the plant to liquefy natural gas. Seven carriers will transport the LNG to Japan as one part of the multimillion dollar project. Under the provisions of the project, Brunei Shell petroleum would supply the gas, mainly from the SW. Ampa field, and pipe it ashore to Lumut, on the Brunei coast, where it would be sold to Brunei LNG, the company responsible for carrying out liquefaction, storage, and LNG loading operations.
