The contribution of the Export-Import Bank of Japan to Japanese LNG projects comprises loans involving the development of natural gas sources, the liquefaction of natural gas, and the seaborne transport of LNG. As of 1977, the Export-Import Bank of Japan, together with private banks, has financed about 60Vertical Bar3< of a total amount of $2.4 billion for three LNG projects (Brunei, Abu Dhabi, and Indonesia) plus an exploration project in the U.S.S.R. at Yakutsk. In the fiscal year 1975, LNG consumption in Japan reached 5.06 million tons; for 1985, the Energy Council of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry forecasts the import of 42 million tons of LNG. The bank will support LNG projects in the future provided they are judged to meet its requirements (sufficient reserves, reasonable cost, and stability of supply).
