Floating alternative in LNG plants

Journal Article · · Offshore; (United States)
OSTI ID:6141480
A design for construction of LNG plants on barges, employing shipyard construction techniques, is presented, which is self-contained and self-sufficient, with complete accommodations for the crew. The floating LNG terminal has the sophisticated equipment required to load or unload an LNG tanker, store the LNG, liquefy gas, regasify LNG, and received or send it by seabed pipes to facilities onshore. The need for large LNG liquefication and regasification plants has accelerated. Projects are now under way or in the planning stage to ship LNG from producing areas, including Indonesia, the Persian Gulf, Algeria, Libya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Alaska, the Canadian Arctic, Russia, and Australia, to industrialized countries where it is needed, e.g., the U.S., Japan, and Europe.
