Silica-supported bidentate phosphine ligands for rhodium(I) catalysts

Thesis/Dissertation ·
OSTI ID:7061977
Silica-supported bidentate phosphine ligands for rhodium(I) catalysts were successfully prepared by treating silica gel with 3-aminopropyl diethoxymethylsilane to give an amino-substituted silica gel and subsequently condensing the amino groups with 2,3-bis(diphenyl phosphino)maleic anhydride to obtain anchored imide groups bearing a phosphine functionality capable of chelating rhodium(I). The catalytic activity of the complexes so anchored to silica was compared with that of analogous soluble complexes. The hybrid and homogeneous catalysts showed broadly similar behavior in the hydrogenation of several olefins.
