Few risk analyses have studied the perceptions of those exposed to the risks, although a series of ''quality of worklife'' surveys begun in 1969 found an increasing awareness of danger on the part of workers. New research has explored what people know about the risks and how they cope with them in terms of anxieties, adaption, activism, and precautions. A major social issue is the inequity of exposing certain groups of workers and whether to compensate with hazard pay or stronger safety regulations. Workers range from those who see increased cooperation between management and labor to resolve risk problems and those who, because of the threatened loss of their job, side with the company's profit requirements to overlook health hazards. 17 references.
