Liver cell proliferation and failure of x radiation to produce hepatomas in rats

X irradiation of the liver region of normal 3-week-old rats, as well as at different times after a /sup 2///sub 3/ hepatectomy, failed to produce hepatomas. This result contrasts with the observations in mice in which liver regeneration was stimulated by CCl/sub 4/ prior to x irradiation as well as in rats exposed to a chemical carcinogen following a /sup 2///sub 3/ hepatectomy.
