Mammoth pipelaying barge delivered from Rotterdam

Pipelaying barge BAR 347, built by the Rotterdam Dockyard Co. for Brown and Root, Inc., Houston, has been delivered to its first job in the Gulf of Mexico. The vessel is powered by five Alco 251 diesel engines, four of which are 16-cylinder turbocharged and aftercooled units driving 2100-kW generators and one an 8-cylinder unit driving a 1000-kW generator. The largest third-generation, nonpropelled pipelaying barge, the vessel is designed to lay deepwater pipelines of large diameter under unfavorable wind and sea conditions.
