The vessel is powered by five Alco 251 diesel engines, four of which are 16-cylinder turbocharged and aftercooled units driving 2100-kW generators and one an 8-cylinder unit driving a 1000-kW generator. The largest third-generation, nonpropelled pipelaying barge, the vessel is designed to lay deepwater pipelines of large diameter under unfavorable wind and sea conditions.
