Title: Hydroxylation of lower alkanes, catalyzed by tetra(o-nitro-phenyl) porphyrin of trivalent iron

We have previously shown that the highest percent oxidation of hexane at the terminal methyl group by iodosobenzene (which was used in model studies as the oxygen atoms donor) was achieved by catalysis with a sterically hindered catalyst, 5,10,15,20-tetra(o-nitrophenyl)porphyrin iron chloride (TNPPFeCl). In the present paper we report our results of a study of the oxidation of methane, ethane, propane, hexane, and cyclohexane by iodosobenzene and TNPPFeCl catalysis in benzene.
