Microcalorimetric determination of the enthalpy of micelle formation for a polyoxyethylene nonionic surfactant

Journal Article · · J. Colloid Interface Sci.; (United States)
This paper presents results of a determination by a combination of calorimetric and ultracentrifuge techniques of the enthalpy and entropy of micelle formation at 2 temperatures in aqueous solutions of the nonionic surfactant poly(oxyethylene) dodecyl ether, C/sub 12/OE/sub 23/ solutions at 2 temperatures. Ultracentrifuge measurements were used primarily to obtain the concentrations of monomer in the solutions before and after dilution, from which the amounts of monomer formed by dissociation of the micelles in the dilution experiments could be calculated. Other information such as the average degree of association in the micelles was obtained also from the ultracentrifuge measurements. 19 references.
