Preparation of free phenylvinyl cations by nuclear-chemical method and study of their reactions wit h benzene in liquid phase

This paper studies ion-molecular reactions of free nucleogenic 1- and 2-phenylvinyl cations with benzene in liquid phase at room temperature. The reaction products were identified by means of gas radiochromatography. It was found that the main products of the ion-molecular reactions of free phenylvinyl cations with benzene are 1,1- and trans-1,2-diphenylethylenes during electrophilic substitution, and also phenylacetylene as the result of monomolecular proton elimination from the cation. Schemes of formation of the observed products in the reaction mixture are suggested.
