Definitional-mission report: Mongolian power plants rehabilitation and modernization feasibility study. Volume 1. Export trade information

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7003708
To explore power sector business opportunities for the U.S., a US Trade and Development Program (TDP) Power sector consultant visited Mongolia to evaluate the existing energy generating facilities and the plans for future energy plants. Mongolia built its energy plants without regard for the cost of producing energy and with the sole goal of producing the end product. All the plants are very inefficient and U.S. companies can rehabilitate these plants through innovation by a combination of introducing new high efficiency boilers and associated systems and topping turbines, etc. The consultant strongly recommends a grant by TDP for a detailed feasibility study for the following: Rehabilitation and life extension of Power Station 3 in Ulaanbaatar; Rehabilitation, life extension and possibly capacity expansion at Darhan power station; Modernization of both electric and heating dispatching centers; Development of systems for metering energy, pricing, collection, etc.
